Softball 10U Fast Pitch
Kid pitch with modified rules
MCAA fast pitch is offered in both Spring and Fall seasons. Spring season is longer in duration than the fall season. Spring season usually starts in the beginning of April and goes through the end of June. The fall season begins after Labor Day and will conclude at the end of October.
MCAA fast pitch teams participate in the Greater Pittsburgh Girls Softball League (GPGSL). During the GPGSL scheduling meeting, MCAA schedules regular season games with teams assigned in MCAA group (usually teams of similar geographic areas).
The GPGSL modifies the fast pitch softball rules to help the girls transition from coach pitch to kid pitch. Some of these rules include…
- No walks. After 4 balls pitched to a batter, the coach will come out to pitch to finish the “at bat.” If the coach must come out three times in the inning, the coach stays out on the mound to pitch to the batters for the remainder of that inning.
- 3 strikes and the player is out
- Stealing Bases: Players cannot steal home. Players can only steal 2nd base and 3rd base. Players can take leads and steal bases only after the pitched ball crosses home plate.
- Each pitcher can only pitch at max 3 innings.
- Runs per inning limit (usually 4 or 5 runs) unless it is the 6th inning – no run rule.
- Pitching distance is 35 feet. Bases are 60 feet.
